A presenter identified two bids and said site visits to nearby stations showed the system from EDI (local dealer) performed well and offered faster local service. The presenter said, “All of them recommended going with the EDI,” and recommended selecting that vendor. The committee was told the Assistance to Firefighters grant budgeted $109,000 for the purchase; bids totaled $109,859, leaving an $859 shortfall. The grant requires a 5% local match, which the presenter said would total $5,700. The grant award also covered smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors and training for firefighters.
Committee members asked whether the system was a replacement or a new installation; staff said the station has a homemade system that is not NFPA‑compliant and that the recommended system would latch to vehicles and activate automatically to reduce in-station fumes. A committee member noted the bid price covered materials and shop labor, and asked whether installation and mileage were included; staff replied the city would pick up and install the unit.
A motion to accept the bid and forward it to the full board was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The committee noted the $859 funding gap and said the local match would be covered from existing funds.
The full board will consider final approval when the item is presented at a future meeting.
