The Newburyport Planning Board continued a special‑permit hearing for work at 19 Madison Street after members and staff identified missing dimensions and scaling on the submitted plans.
The project presenter (owner) described a second‑floor bedroom extension over an existing bathroom structure and said a neighbor at 17 Madison provided a letter permitting attachment. The presenter described the plan as “bridging the nonconformed structure” and noted the addition would use the same footprint but rise up above the existing element.
Board members repeatedly asked for clear, scaled elevations and dimensions. One board member said the drawings were “not scaled” and asked for a dimensioned bathroom elevation so the board could verify height and setback. Planning staff and other members explained that clear elevations help both the board’s decision and later zoning/building reviews; staff recommended applicants upload legible PDFs with coherent file names.
Given the missing plan details, the board moved and voted to continue the matter to the May 12 meeting and instructed the applicant to submit dimensioned elevations and scaled drawings to the planning office in advance of the next hearing.
