A planning staff member alerted the Historic District Commission that fraudulent invoices, purporting to request application or permit fees on behalf of the town, have been circulating to applicants.
"There are many fraudulent invoices that are going out on behalf of the town, requesting application fees, permit fees that don't exist for both planning commission meetings and historic district commission meetings," the staff member said. In response, the town will stop posting full, detailed application materials on the public website and instead make full meeting packets available upon request; planning staff and commission members will continue to receive complete materials in the usual ways.
Staff said the procedural change is intended to reduce the opportunity for scammers to misuse publicly available payment instructions. Commissioners and other attendees confirmed they will continue to request or receive printed packets for review prior to meetings. The staff member said nothing in the change affects the commission’s or public’s ability to access meeting materials on request.
