The Concord School Committee voted on a package of procedural and fiscal items at its May 6 meeting, including a motion to delay election of the regional chair and vice chair until the June 3 regional meeting, approval of the consent agenda with one item removed for separate processing, and final approval of FY'26 budget transfers.
After discussion about the timing of Carlisle's town meeting and historical practice, a motion "to delay the election of chairs until the June 3 meeting" was moved, seconded and approved. The clerk recorded the voice vote and several members abstained; the motion carried. The committee then appointed Aaron Higgins as recording secretary by voice vote.
The committee later reviewed and approved FY'26 budget transfers, with Bob (finance staff, S6) summarizing the major drivers: benefits and fixed charges (including OPEB contribution), out‑of‑district tuition variances and heating costs from a cold winter. "Included in what we have left to pay there is our OPEB contribution of 375,000," S6 said, explaining why the fixed‑charges line appears large in the transfer packet.
On transportation infrastructure, staff reported progress on installation of a bidirectional charger for Knox Trail and work with the municipal light plant and site environmental testing; charger hardware and software are grant‑funded while town meeting capital funds are being used for associated transformer/conduit work. The committee discussed a potential ten‑year electric‑bus vendor arrangement and the need to compare total cost of ownership against diesel; staff said more vendor detail will be provided at the next meeting.
Items removed from the consent agenda were scheduled for further discussion or separate votes. The committee also handled routine second‑reading policy approvals and set a draft schedule of committee meetings for the coming year.
