The Souderton Borough Council presented its 2025 Business of the Year award to the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company at the May 4 meeting.
Dave Barris, president of the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company, accepted the award and thanked borough officials for what he described as “ongoing willingness to allow employees who serve as volunteers to respond to fire calls during work hours.” He said that flexibility has “played a vital role in improving response times and enhancing safety for our community.”
Barris told the council the company responded to about 486 calls last year and has roughly 50 active members; the volunteer force logged about 505 hours of reported service in the past year. Councilors and staff also noted the department’s role in community events and emergency response.
Council President (speaker S1) and other members praised the partnership between the borough, public works and volunteer responders. The award presentation concluded with a photo opportunity and no formal council action was required.
The presentation coincided with International Firefighters Day and, according to council discussion, is part of ongoing public recognition efforts for borough emergency volunteers.
