The Washington County Board of Supervisors Personnel Committee met in early May 2026 to deal with a string of staff vacancies and several personnel requests, including a county clerk classification change and a vacation‑day rollover.
Committee chair opened the meeting and called for approval of the minutes, which passed on a voice vote. Staff then summarized a series of recent vacancies across county departments: an aging services aide in the Office for the Aging (vacated April 14), a code enforcement officer (vacated May 1), a county clerk promoted to county archivist (April 23), a senior motor‑vehicle license clerk (vacated April 25), a DPW highway sign maintenance supervisor (vacated April 24), a registered professional nurse in Public Health (resigning the next day), and a Veterans Services officer (vacated April 14). Staff also said the deputy director will vacate on June 1 and the VSO hired into the vacant position will be promoted to deputy director on June 1, creating a follow‑on vacancy in veterans services.
When the chair asked the county clerk to explain staffing needs, Nisha, the county clerk, said the senior motor‑vehicle license clerk left for another county job "starting off at $42 an hour," and that the clerk's office preferred to hire a motor‑vehicle license clerk now rather than promote an internal candidate immediately. Nisha asked the committee to wait until about September before reconsidering promotions to give newer clerks time to gain experience. A motion to implement the requested classification change (remove one senior motor‑vehicle license clerk slot and add a motor‑vehicle license clerk slot) was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Supervisors also considered a request from Planning staff to roll over six vacation days for employee Amy Baucher, which exceeds the five‑day rollover normally allowed in extraordinary circumstances. Board members discussed accrual, payout risk and past comp‑time cash‑outs; the committee approved the six‑day rollover by voice vote.
Before adjourning the public portion of the meeting, the chair moved that the committee enter executive session to discuss personnel/personal matters; the motion was seconded and the committee prepared to go into executive session.
The committee’s actions were procedural and personnel‑focused: vacancies were noted, the clerk’s temporary classification change approved to maintain operations, a single planning employee’s rollover was granted, and the committee moved to executive session for confidential personnel discussion. The transcript records the meeting date ambiguously as “May 7/8, 2026.”
