Upshur County Commission approves demolition contract, seasonal hires and routine administrative business

The Upshur County Commission met April 30 and approved several administrative actions. On a motion by Commissioner Samuel R. Nolte, seconded by Commissioner Douglas K. Bush, the commission approved and authorized Commission President Kristie G. Tenney to sign a contract with Spruce Creek Enterprises, LLC, to demolish a structure and clean up property at 88 Jack Lane in Buckhannon for $9,150.00.
The commission also approved a request from Greg Woody, Director of the Upshur County Youth Camp, to hire seasonal camp employees with start date May 18, 2026. The commission accepted the resignation of Ella Pinkney, a part‑time Community Corrections case aide, as presented in the minutes. The commission approved a community use permit submitted by Christian Fellowship Church to hold a National Day of Prayer gathering in front of the courthouse May 7 at 9:30 a.m.; Kristie Tenney said Reverend Ed McDaniels would provide a certificate of insurance.
For Your Information items included Grant Award Modification #1 for Project Number 25‑CS‑17, which deobligated $557.12 after part of the project came in under budget, and the Upshur County Sheriff’s financial statement for the period ending March 31, 2026. Staff noted upcoming events and vacancies, including an immediate vacancy on the Mountaineer Trail Network through June 30, 2026; County Administrator Tabatha R. Perry said Brian Bergstrom expressed interest in that vacancy, and Commissioner Douglas K. Bush said he planned to submit his resignation from the Mountaineer Trail Network to appear on a future agenda.
The commission approved invoices for payment, vacation orders, final settlements for Huelin C. Linger and Lillian Marie Mitchell Sipe, and corrections/exonerations including a $3.24 exoneration for Johnston Joseph D. (Joey) and a $453.04 exoneration for McClure Kevin M and Smith Karen Lynn. The commission approved several employee requests to attend meetings as listed in the minutes. The next commission meeting is scheduled for May 7, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.; the May 21 meeting was canceled. The meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
