The Tuscaloosa City Schools board voted May 5 to approve a three-year Turf Tank Pro robotic field painter subscription, giving each of the district’s three high schools its own automated field-marking unit.
Dr. Cameron introduced the item to the board and said the robot "will help our athletic coaches" by delivering consistent field markings and allowing coaches more time to plan and practice. "It will...design to mark any types of athletic fields," he said, adding the system can be operated via tablet and includes training.
Board members asked operational questions about unit distribution. When asked whether schools would share a single unit, staff clarified each high school will receive its own unit — three total — and that the athletics funding stream will be used to pay for the subscriptions.
The board moved, seconded and approved the subscription motion. No dollar figure for the three-year subscription was provided in the transcript; the district said the purchase will be funded from athletics allocations.
