The Clay County Historic Preservation Board opened its May 7 meeting, approved the minutes and moved to old business after a brief discussion about how minutes are produced and posted.
The board voted to approve the minutes after Committee member (speaker 1) moved to approve and a second from Committee member (speaker 2). The minutes taker (staff member who prepares minutes) told the board the county posts a word-for-word transcription and video on the county website and that minutes are intended to summarize business, presenters and the exact vote language.
The board then discussed a slate of officer candidates. Staff presented the nominations and members debated nominating-committee procedures, including whether the committee’s private vetting of candidates conflicts with public-meeting rules. Staff said county attorney guidance indicated a candidate who applied and was extended by the Board of County Commissioners would remain eligible; staff also said the slate would be placed on the June agenda and that winners would take office in August. The chair called for a vote to place the slate (naming Sean for chair and Steven Griffith for vice chair) on the June agenda, and the board approved the slate by voice vote.
Board members also said they would review the nominations process to avoid last-minute confusion in future cycles. The board moved on to a cemetery survey update after confirming the slate placement.
The board adjourned after closing comments.
