At its May 5 meeting the Oak Harbor City Council read a Drinking Water Week proclamation that highlighted the city water division’s scale and its compliance with health standards.
Council Member Alex Marshall read the proclamation, which noted that the city’s water division supplies “over 400,000,000 gallons of drinking water each year” through more than 100 miles of mains, three pumping stations, four reservoirs and three groundwater wells. The proclamation states the city’s water supply has met Washington State Department of Health and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards for health and safety.
The council encouraged residents and institutions to learn about the local water system and to take part in conservation efforts during Drinking Water Week (May 3–9). No regulatory or budget actions were taken at the meeting related to water service.
