Board approves textbook and assessment contracts to support Alabama Literacy Act requirements

Carita Venable, presenting recommendations from the Teaching and Learning Committee, moved to adopt secondary social studies textbooks for middle and high schools and to approve an agreement with Amplify Education, Inc. for the mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition early reading assessment. The agenda states the Amplify contract is essential to meet the Alabama Literacy Act (#2019-523), which requires comprehensive assessments and progress monitoring in elementary schools. The Amplify licensing period is noted to begin October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, with a start date for services in August 2026.
The board also renewed the Amplify CKLA Core ELA/Reading curriculum (K–5) with a digital license term of July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027, and approved Savvas Learning Company LLC to provide SIOP Capacity Builder Plus training for ESL teachers and coaches (five instructional days). Additionally, the purchase of Curriculum Associates' i-Ready diagnostic and personalized instruction licenses for math and reading and associated professional development for every middle school were approved for the 2026–2027 school year.
All curriculum and assessment recommendations were approved by motion and carried unanimously. The board did not specify contract dollar amounts for the Amplify or i-Ready agreements in the meeting minutes; the CKLA renewal and implementation dates are included in the agenda language.
