Jefferson County Board unanimously approves emergency repair at Mount Olive and multiple contracts, adopts curriculum updates

The Jefferson County Board of Education met March 19, 2026, and unanimously approved a slate of motions including an emergency repair resolution for Mount Olive Elementary, multiple facility and professional-services agreements, personnel contracts and the district’s bills and payroll for February.
The board declared an emergency at Mount Olive Elementary School after structural damage to the gym from a recent severe storm and granted the superintendent authority to enter contracts to remedy the damage. The resolution was moved by Carita Venable and seconded by Glenn Durough and passed unanimously.
The board also approved agreements to conduct a districtwide comprehensive facility analysis with Sitelogiq and to contract HPM for demographic analysis and facility planning; both motions were presented by Venable and carried unanimously. The board approved professional services with Criterion K-12 Consulting for educational services at a cost not to exceed $135,000, to be funded from the General Fund.
Finance items included CSFO Laura Nance’s presentation of the February financial statement (General Fund balance reported at $269,838,168.95). The board approved February accounts payable of $11,226,432.41 and payroll of $30,209,884.60, totaling $41,436,317.01; it also approved the 2026–27 payroll calendars and a summer work schedule running June 1–July 31, 2026, as presented.
Administrative personnel actions were approved, including issuance of 36-month principal and assistant principal contracts beginning July 1, 2026. The board also approved two unpaid suspensions (a teacher and a head custodian) as listed in personnel notices. Motions on personnel items were moved by Carita Venable and seconded by Glenn Durough and passed unanimously.
Other approved items included technology and IT procurements (a three-year upgrade to Google Workspace for Education Plus and E-Rate awards for AT&T and CSpire), bids for school projects (K&A Builders awarded $627,300 for casework at McAdory High School; Williford Orman Construction awarded $369,369 for cooler/freezer replacement at Snow Rogers Elementary), and numerous charters, facility-use agreements and event contracts for spring activities and field trips.
President Ronnie Dixon thanked attendees and wished the community a refreshing spring break. With no further business, the board adjourned at 10:17 a.m.
