Isanti County approves boating-safety motor purchase and K-9 replacement for Maverick

Deputy John Gilquist reported at the April 21 meeting that the sheriff's office obtained a federal boating-safety equipment grant to replace the patrol boat motor. Gilquist said the motor will be a 90-horsepower Yamaha VMAX; the grant will pay most costs and the remaining $385.99 can be covered by an existing active grant balance.
Gilquist also updated the board on K-9 operations, saying Maverick (almost nine years old) is showing age-related signs that justify replacing the dog sooner than previously planned. He said the county's canine account is a restricted fund supported by public and business donations and is "very healthy" following prior fundraising; the account covers dogs, equipment and some veterinary expenses. The board approved the K-9 replacement on a motion and roll-call vote.
Commissioners thanked deputies and community donors for support of the canine program.
