County awards gravel and pavement-marking contracts for summer road work

Isanti County commissioners approved two highway contracts intended for this summer’s road work: a gravel purchase and a pavement-markings contract.
County Highway Engineer Justin Bergison recommended awarding the annual gravel program to Bjorklund Companies LLC for gravel placement on County Road 63 and for stockpile delivery. Bergison said the estimate called for about 3,300 tons placed on County Road 63 and roughly 750 tons for highway stockpiles; his recommendation was $12.25 per ton for placement and $14 per ton for delivered gravel. "My recommendation would be move to approve the quote from Bjorklund Companies LLC in the amount of $12.25 per ton for gravel placement on County Road 63 and $14 per ton for gravel delivered to the highway department stockpile," Bergison said.
The board also considered bids for contract 2610 (annual pavement markings). Staff received three bids and recommended awarding to Sir Lines-a-Lot Inc, the apparent low bidder, at $21.90 per gallon for yellow and white latex paint with an estimated contract value of $165,783 — about 19% under the engineer's estimate. Commissioners noted the contract is within the highway budget for 2026.
Both items were approved by unanimous roll-call votes. Staff will move to finalize contracts and schedule work this construction season.
