Dunn County approves 76.8-acre gravel pit permit, sponsors behavioral health summit and hears historical society update

The Dunn County Board approved a Conditional Use Permit (Permit #02-2026) for a 76.8-acre gravel pit located in the SW¼ of section 25-146-96, a property zoned Rural Preservation and owned by Arlin Fischer and Russell Fischer. Code Administrator Sandy Rohde presented the application and the commission approved the permit "as presented and recommended by Planning and Zoning" with a motion by Commissioner Pelton, seconded by Commissioner Heiser; the vote was unanimous.
Sandy Rohde also asked the board to continue the county's annual sponsorship of Vision West's Behavioral Health Summit; the commission approved a $7,500 sponsorship for the June 17–18 event at the Astoria in Dickinson, again by unanimous roll call.
Representatives from the Dunn County Historical Society, Linda Kittilson and Sue Powers Hartman, updated the commission on their site construction project and plans for a campus-like layout that would include outdoor gathering areas, an amphitheater, a memorial garden and additional parking. They told the commissioners the society plans multiple events for its 50th anniversary in 2026 and is completing heat-pump installations and phase-two site planning with architects.
Administrative items approved during the meeting included appointment of five election inspectors (Shelley Flaget, Vickie Loh, Jocelyn Carlson, Raven Heart and Frances White), two special event permits for July 1–5, and approval of a sales quote for a security access-control door for the Auditor/County Services area for $6,396.46.
The minutes also record that the Auditor confirmed annual auditors will be on site May 25–26 and that the Auditor's Office will work on Memorial Day to accommodate the audit. The board approved the warrant list and adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
