Resident Martha Ritter urges action after contractor crews leave trash; board approves consent agenda

Martha Ritter, a resident of 2 Union School Street, told the Village of Cary board on March 16 that she has seen contractor crews leave garbage in yards and park in areas marked "no parking," and urged the village to hold contractors to the same standards as residents. "If you are so gung-ho on destroying our neighborhood, could you do it with respect and dignity?" Ritter said, later adding, "Yo, pick up your garbage out of my yard. I ain't your mama."
The board, meeting as a special session because the regular meeting date conflicted with an election, also recognized several employees and approved its consent agenda. The Mayor and others presented a five-year service recognition to Andrew of the utilities division and praised Assistant Village Administrator Nick Radcliff for stepping into a needed role; the Mayor referred to Radcliff as "boy wonder."
During staff updates, officials said the village is partnering with the state on a step grant to place additional officers dedicated to traffic enforcement for a limited period aimed at impaired driving, seat-belt use, speeding and distracted driving. The enforcement period was announced as March 13 through March 23. Public works staff said yard-waste collection through Flood Brothers will begin April 6 for single-family customers with active Flood Brothers accounts, and a Spring Clean pickup is scheduled south of the railroad tracks on April 25 and north of the tracks on May 2.
A motion to approve consent agenda items A through E was made and seconded; during a roll-call vote the board approved the items with recorded "Yes" votes from Dudek, McCalpin, Walrath, Porcina, Gallagher and Stefani. Later, the board moved to adjourn and the Mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
The meeting included a public comment urging stricter contractor oversight and several routine staff announcements; no ordinances, resolutions, or formal policy changes were introduced for separate debate during the session.
