Vice Chair Levo suggested a name order that places the issue first so acronyms are clearer; members agreed to a phrasing that would be easier to say and align with other advisory groups.
Miss Welsh summarized substantive additions requested by the advisory group: expanding the committee's advisory scope to include service provision data, compliance with state and federal requirements, and written communication protocols to prevent overlap with the special education students advisory committee. The proposal would establish 10 board-appointed members with staggered terms to preserve continuity.
The advisory group also requested that the classification office examine compensation and career pathways for dedicated aides (DAs), including options for part-time or half-time positions with benefits; Miss Welsh advised that pay structure and staffing classifications are management responsibilities and therefore not included verbatim in board policy.
By roll call, the committee recorded five affirmative votes to recommend policy 1700 to the policy sponsor for revision approval; members thanked Board Member Brown and Vice Chair Levo for their work with the advisory group and asked staff to return a revised draft in the next cycle.
