The Recreation & Parks director provided the commission with a summary of programs, events and capital projects during the Feb. 10, 2026 meeting.
The director highlighted upcoming communitywide events: two coastal cleanups on Saturdays, Feb. 14 and March 14 at Seaplane Lagoon; a storytelling and drumming festival on Saturday, March 14 at the Massie Senior Center; a spring shin day/Earth Day event on Saturday, April 18 at Alameda Point Gym; and other recurring programs including swim lessons at the SNL Swim Center and pickleball drop-ins at Alameda Point Gym. The director said winter warming shelters are open through April 30 from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. at multiple city locations.
On capital projects, the director said Eschory Park is under construction as a 5-acre extension of the existing park and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The City View skate park construction documents are complete and staff plan to move that project into construction this summer. Staff also reported recent park maintenance activities, including hauling off more than 10 loads of storm debris between Veterans Court and the Enel boat ramp.
The director congratulated two staff promotions: Katherine Frasier (promoted to gardener) and Raymond Rivera (promoted to maintenance worker two). The director also noted the massing staff's participation in the city's point-in-time count for people experiencing homelessness.
Commissioners thanked the director; no formal action was requested on the report.
