Gyms on the Course operator reports renovations, plans wind barriers after plumbing repairs

Tom, the representative for Gyms on the Course, described facility upgrades and operational issues to the commission.

Tom said the restaurant replaced small umbrellas with larger 5x5 umbrellas, covered the front patio, added seating, retained a couple of fire pits and plans to install removable plexiglass wind barriers on the bar side to extend outdoor dining when winds are strong. He said the barriers will be transparent and fully removable so they will not obstruct views.

Tom also described persistent plumbing problems that required multiple contractors and camera inspections; he said the repair work uncovered breaks under the foundation and cost about $15,000 to complete. Since the repairs, he said restroom availability and plumbing issues have been resolved. He said the restaurant will revise its menu for the summer, runs periodic specials, maintains a strong social-media presence, and serves a customer base that includes non-golfers in addition to golfers; he estimated that perhaps 20% of customers come from the driving range.

Commissioners asked about wind direction, potential visibility or traffic impacts from a new Greenway snack area near the driving range, and whether the restaurant's customers included driving-range users. Tom said the prevailing afternoon winds are typically from the southeast and that the barriers would be placed on the bar side (not the front-facing side) to improve comfort. He said the snack area at the driving range could create overlap in clientele but that the restaurant would monitor how it affects business.

Commissioners thanked Tom for the update; no formal action was taken.
