Wayne County sheriff's office says Metro Tech site is for vehicle service and recruiting, not a full satellite office

Fenita Terry, chief of administration for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, told the Committee on Public Safety, Judiciary and Homeland Security that the office maintains an intermittent presence at Metro Tech in Dearborn primarily for vehicle servicing and recruiting, not as a full operations hub.

Terry said deputies and administrative staff use the site when vehicles are being serviced and that her office posts recruiting materials at Metro Tech; she said it is “not true operations being ran out of that location.” Commissioners pressed for details about public access and the length of vehicle service events. Terry said citizens do not generally come to Metro Tech for services, and that service intervals vary — “it depends. It could be either or,” ranging from short maintenance to longer servicing.

Commission counsel asked for clarification after Terry described the site as not being a continuous operational location, noting there has been an outstanding lease the county has been reviewing. Commissioners said they want follow-up information on the lease and on how the county will communicate what services (if any) are available at Metro Tech.

The committee moved to receive and file the sheriff’s office report; Commissioner Clemente moved the motion and Commissioner Wilson supported it. The motion carried.
