Staff said applications for the CDBG funding round were due at the end of the week and that the commission could either receive presentations at the commission’s Feb. 4 meeting or at a special meeting on Jan. 21; commissioners generally agreed Feb. 4 followed by a special meeting in February (targeted Feb. 11) would be more manageable. Staff said the allocation to be ranked is roughly $275,000 and that the commission would make funding recommendations to city council based on how proposals meet HUD’s national objectives and the City’s consolidated plan.
Commissioners asked how the scoring would translate into dollar amounts — whether scores are numeric ratings or directly tied to allocation amounts — and staff said more detailed scoring guidance and timelines would be provided after applications are received. Staff cautioned that an accelerated Jan. 21 schedule might not leave enough time for full deliberation and scoring; a later special meeting in February would allow commissioners and staff to prepare a city-council-facing report that the city manager’s office can present on March 5.
No final allocations were made at the meeting. Staff committed to gathering details on the number of proposals expected, the scoring process, and available meeting dates so the commission can finalize scheduling and scoring logistics.
