The Weed City Council tabled consideration of a proposed six-month lease with Mountain Valley Health Centers for two offices at 150 Alamo Avenue and directed staff to return with firm renovation timelines and cost estimates.
City staff described the proposed lease as a short-term arrangement to allow Mountain Valley to maintain local services while their primary clinic is remodeled. The draft agreement indicated a $600-per-month rent for two small offices and occasional use of a second-floor conference room. Council members raised concerns about building condition (leaks from a skylight, cracked walls) and the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system; staff said HVAC repairs and other maintenance will likely be required before occupancy.
Council members also discussed potential impacts on the library (shared circulation areas and possible cross-traffic to the tenant's entrance) and whether certain patient populations could create safety perceptions in library spaces; staff noted the lease includes separate entrances and HIPAA limits what tenant staff can disclose about clients.
Given the narrow window before the tenant’s requested April 1 occupancy date, councilmembers agreed not to finalize the lease until the city obtains repair and utility-cost estimates, and possibly re-evaluates the rent. Council moved to hold a special meeting in March after Public Works supplies renovation quotes; the motion to table passed.
