Jacqueline Adelson’s West Babylon porch alteration met with board condition

The Town of Babylon Zoning Board of Appeals reviewed application 2660, filed in the name of Jacqueline Adelson, for a roughly 250-square-foot interior extension and related front-portico issues on a West Babylon property. The board entered a planning division memo (dated 04/28/2026), an environmental control memo (05/06/2026), a survey dated 04/20/2022 and plans by Todd O'Connell dated 12/01/2025 into the record.

The applicant’s representative (Speaker 4) told the board the extension would remain within the existing footprint of the house and that the work would not add a new exterior basement entrance. The representative said the front portico appears to have been added within the last decade and that the property owner purchased the house about two years ago. “So we are just actually, filing a building permit, application for a 250-square-foot extension within the footprint of the home,” the representative said.

Board members questioned whether the portico had earlier approvals and whether the proposed work would increase lot coverage. A participant who identified themself as the contractor (Speaker 5) confirmed the project would not create a new exterior basement entrance and that the interior work would convert the existing area into a bathroom and change basement access to interior-only.

Committee member (Speaker 5) moved to approve application 2660 “with the condition that the front porch not be further enclosed,” and a second was recorded.
