Mechanicville students introduce new student council projects and fundraising efforts

Kate Reyes, a fifth-grade teacher and the student council faculty advisor, introduced the first MES student council and spoke about the election process and early achievements. "This group of kiddos...They were so full of amazing ideas for our school and so excited to get to work," Reyes said, describing twice‑monthly meetings, classroom representatives, and a plan for ongoing leadership development.
Miriam Marco, the student council president, and other officers outlined projects the council has already run or planned, including a successful partnership with Clink Bottle Collection to raise funds, a toiletry drive to stock the school closet for fall, assistance with a Super Bowl fundraiser, and plans to help with the spring field day and an upcoming Flag Day assembly. "It's been an honor and so much fun to be the first president of the MES student council," Marco said.
District administrators praised the students’ initiative, encouraged them to bring items to the Board when appropriate, and invited parents to join a quick photo at the meeting. The Board and administrators also reviewed upcoming school events and assessments, including a fifth-grade science assessment next week and a BOCES STEAM bus visit for younger grades.
