City staff were thanked for a rapid transition of council chambers and technology setup as Fontana begins using a new meeting location in the Steel Workers Auditorium.
The city manager told the council that a temporary city hall has been established at 16860 Valencia Avenue (the northeast corner of Valencia and Nuevo) for financial transactions and clerk services while permanent renovations proceed. He also announced the council will not meet on Jan. 27 and scheduled the next regular meeting for Feb. 10.
The mayor asked residents to volunteer for the point-in-time count of people experiencing homelessness on Jan. 22, saying the event will start at 5 a.m. and end about 10 a.m. Volunteers must complete a short mandatory training (available in person or online) and sign up through Eventbrite; the mayor said the city needs about 150 volunteers to achieve an accurate count that supports funding and services.
Council members also recognized community service efforts during the holidays, thanked multiple local businesses and nonprofits for donations, and adjourned the meeting in memory of Victor F. Reeves Sr. and Rowena Ramos, mother of Assembly Member James Ramos.
The council adjourned to its next regular meeting on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Steel Workers Auditorium.
