The Lemon Grove City Council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 471 on Jan. 20, increasing city council salaries to $950 per month and adjusting the mayor’s compensation per the municipal code formula.
City Attorney Kristen Steinke told the council the ordinance was introduced at the Dec. 16 meeting and that, if adopted, the increase would commence after certification of the 2026 municipal election and the ordinance’s effective date (approximately 30 days after adoption). "The amendment will increase city council salaries to $950 a month," Steinke said during the staff report.
Why it matters: The ordinance sets compensation for elected officials and will apply to the council elected in the 2026 municipal election; the mayor’s pay is determined by the code’s formula and will increase accordingly. The council completed the required second reading by title and adopted the ordinance unanimously.
Vote and procedure: The motion to introduce for second reading by title only and adopt Ordinance No. 471 was moved and seconded on the floor; the roll call vote was 5–0 in favor.
Next steps: The ordinance will become effective according to the timetable described by staff and will be implemented for the council seated after certification of the 2026 election.
