Creswell Middle School FBLA students describe fundraisers and community service at board meeting

Students from Creswell Middle School's FBLA presented their chapter's community-service and fundraising activities at the Creswell School District 40 board meeting.
"My name is Avery Heron. We are excited to present our Creswell Middle School community service project," said Avery Heron, who identified herself as a state officer with FBLA. She and chapter officers described ceremonies and fundraisers intended to build leadership and pay for student activities.
Officers said the chapter held an induction and emblem ceremony to welcome new members, awarded certificates, and celebrated with a donut reception. Fundraisers they described included bun-cake sales, a Kona Ice event, and spring- and fall-flower-bulb sales. One school contest, described as a "dime war," rewarded the winning homeroom with a pieing of the principal and provided students with experience in counting, marketing and teamwork.
The students also described service activities. The chapter reported placing among the top in the nation for fundraising in Walk to End Alzheimer's and hosting a purple spirit day to raise awareness. Students also helped host and run a regional FBLA conference, with state officers delivering opening remarks and leading workshops.
"This year's FBLA theme is 'Make Your Mark.' To us, that means creating meaningful change and leaving a positive impact wherever we serve," Heron said.
Board members thanked the students for the presentation and for volunteering at regional events.
The students offered to answer questions after the presentation and departed when the board moved to other agenda items.
