The superintendent told the board Buckeye Valley is pursuing in-house transportation for some special-needs routes, including hiring district van drivers and buying one or two vans to replace outsourced transportation contracts. "We currently spend about $400,000 to $500,000 from the trigger on outsourcing that service," the superintendent said, adding hiring drivers directly should significantly cut that cost.
During the same update Dodie, the district's director of transportation, read a commendation for driver Laura Carrian, who encountered a home on fire while driving her route, broke a window to check for occupants and remained on scene until emergency responders arrived. The board recognized Carrian for her actions.
The consent agenda included classified employment items and the potential purchase of vans; the superintendent highlighted the financial rationale as part of the consent packet. The board approved consent items as presented.
