Students honored for reading and academics; board accepts community donations

The Kasson‑Mantorville School Board recognized several students and teams during the meeting. Jenny Carrier, the district’s community education director, presented Cade Pockard with recognition for completing the district’s "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" challenge; Carrier said the program began in 2014, 1,494 children have enrolled and 56 have completed the challenge.
Trent Lang, the high school principal, announced the March students of the month: Audrey Peterson (nth grade), Keriana Meltchure (10th), Emma Matsik (11th) and senior Berkeley Clay (student of the month). Lang highlighted Berkeley Clay’s approach to schoolwork and post‑graduation plans to attend the University of St. Thomas and pursue nursing.
Athletics recognitions included girls basketball earning Academic All‑State Gold with a team GPA of 3.84 and four seniors listed with high GPAs (Amelia Keepky 3.98; Malia Haroldson 4.04; Janice Sandstrom 4.08; Lana Burr 4.10). Coach Megan Culverson announced the Comets dance team earned a Silver Academic Achievement award (team GPA 3.5–3.74).
The board also approved a resolution to accept community donations for school programs and teams, listing donor names and amounts as read into the record (examples: LC Trucking LLC $500; Christa Ray LLC $500; KMHS FFA $1,000; Heritage Bank $100). A motion to accept the donations passed.
