City attorneys informed the council that the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, through its Brownfields program, conducted subsurface testing and did not find pollutants, underground fuel tanks or environmental contamination at the vacant lot west of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center at 320 W. Martin Luther King Street.
City staff explained the city had applied for the Brownfields grant when it acquired the vacant lot formerly used as a gas station to confirm whether remediation would be necessary before future development. Because inspections found no materials requiring cleanup, staff said the city does not need to pursue a cleanup grant and the property is available for expansion of the community center, parking or other city uses.
Council members welcomed the outcome and staff made the certificate of no action available in the meeting packet for public review. No council action was required on the report.
