The Plain Planning & Zoning Commission on March 18, 2026 approved ZC-26-6, a code amendment to codified ordinance chapter 1136.03 that replaces the existing 30-day public-notice waiting period with a 15-day period.
City staff member Mr. Hutchinson told commissioners the change is narrowly textual. "All this is is the only two words changing in this and it's changing from 30 days to 15 days," he said, adding the revision is intended to align P&Z timelines with those used by other boards and by council.
Commission discussion emphasized consistency and modern practice. Staff and commissioners noted that many of the city’s codes already require 14 or 15 days’ notice and that the 30-day clause appeared to be a holdover from older template language. The group also discussed notice channels, including newspaper publication, the city website and app push notifications; commissioners said digital options expand reach but acknowledged not all residents use social media.
A motion to approve ZC-26-6 was made and seconded; recorded affirmative votes were given by Miss McCoy, Mr. Gardner and the mayor. The transcript records the commission’s approval; next procedural steps identified in discussion include normal notice and circulation to other bodies where applicable.
The amendment changes the technical public-notice interval in chapter 1136.03 and, according to staff, should shorten the hearing timeline for zoning-related matters and make the commission’s schedule consistent with other municipal timelines.
