During the hearing the chair noted that "he's agreed to pay for the traffic study and do it if we vote that way," referring to an applicant’s offer to fund a study but the board ultimately voted to deny the request without ordering that study.
A separate application from an applicant identified as Ali was postponed until the board received information from the Georgia Department of Transportation about driveway-cut approvals. Commissioner Jones moved to postpone "pending information on the driveway cut from GDOT," and the motion carried.
Three additional rezoning items (identified as B, C and D on the agenda) were approved by the board on motions that followed the planning commission’s recommendation.
Commissioners and members of the public repeatedly cited heavy morning traffic and safety concerns on Lake Kathy Road and nearby corridors as factors in their deliberations. Resident Kelly Eager asked the board to "carefully consider Mr. Ali's project" and to weigh safety and lot layout concerns before approving new development near her property.
The actions mean one rezoning request was denied, one was postponed for GDOT review, and three were accepted based on planning‑commission recommendations. The board did not set additional requirements or timelines for the postponed item beyond awaiting GDOT input.
