Council proclaims Red Cross month, hears senior center relocation plan and approves Springfest and a pay study

Mayor read a city proclamation designating March 2026 as American Red Cross month and encouraged residents to support blood donation and volunteering efforts.

Elaine Gore, director of the Ory County Council on Aging, asked the council to consider relocating the Conway Senior Center to the fellowship hall at Jamestown Church. Gore said the nonprofit would fund required upgrades, cover recurring expenses and continue liability coverage; she said the relocation would accommodate seniors’ needs and could free other public spaces for expanded city recreation.

Council members thanked Gore and asked follow‑up questions about service area and transportation; Gore said the program serves both city and non‑city residents and estimated roughly 40–50% of participants live in Conway, with the organization providing bus pickup for others.

The council also considered a special event permit for Springfest at the Outpost on April 18. Applicant Shannon Jordan said a revised setup would avoid use of the late‑night back parking lot and rely on the front parking area while coordinating with a morning 5K. Council members approved the permit unanimously and asked staff to coordinate teardown and timing with the 5K organizers.

Staff presented results of a request for proposals for an employee classification and pay study, reporting seven bids; staff recommended awarding the contract to Evergreen Solutions and the council approved the award.

Council members’ remarks during input included requests to revisit rules for public input, explore third‑party options for sponsorship and fundraising, and address sign enforcement on Main Street; the meeting concluded with an adjournment.
