The Wickliffe City Council on March 9 administered the oath of office to Robert J. Nimi, who was sworn in as a patrolman for the Wickliffe Police Department.
“I, Robert J. Nimi, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Ohio and the laws of the charter of the City of Wickliffe, and that I will in all respects faithfully discharge my duties as a patrolman of the City of Wickliffe Police Department,” Nimi said as he repeated the oath after the mayor, drawing applause from the chamber.
Council members then heard from Police Chief Bush, who said he will meet with civil service to begin the NTN testing process to fill open patrol positions. “I’ll be meeting with civil service to . . . start the process with opening the NTN testing process and then we’ll start to try to hire applicants for the open spots,” Bush said, describing the next steps to recruit officers.
Bush also summarized recent narcotics activity connected to the city. He said one suspect tied to operations in East Lake—who officers allege had been selling drugs in Wickliffe—was arrested by East Lake officers after fleeing from an earlier attempted arrest. Separately, Bush described an incident at the JNL motel in which a suspect fled a buy-and-bust and damaged law-enforcement and a resident’s vehicle during the escape; he said officers secured an arrest but noted vehicle damage occurred during the incident.
The chief’s report was informational; council did not act on police staffing or operations during the meeting. The mayor and council thanked the department for the update and welcomed Patrolman Nimi.
The council meeting continues to the agendas for committee scheduling and ordinance readings; no formal votes on police policy were taken at this session.
