Kankakee County finance office earns 10th GFOA certificate of achievement

Kankakee County on March 10 celebrated its finance department after the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the county a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending Nov. 30, 2024. The board noted this is the county’s 10th time receiving the award.
Chairman Matthew Alexander Hildebrand told the board he was “extremely proud of the county of Kankakee for once again earning this distinguished recognition,” and credited the county board, elected officials, department heads and finance staff for strengthening the county’s financial position over the past decade. In his remarks he specifically recognized Finance Director McCarti, Assistant Director Kerner, Staff Accountant Bess and accounts payable clerk Bertrram for their work.
The GFOA award recognizes governments that demonstrate transparent reporting and full disclosure that communicates the government’s financial story. The chairman said the recognition reflects the county’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, ethics and public transparency; the board applauded the finance team, noting staff were occupied with audit work and could not attend.
The board did not take further action beyond recognition; staff continue audit and reporting work for fiscal oversight.
