Board approves audit, construction managers and several administrative actions

At its meeting, the Shelby County Board of Education approved a package of procurement and administrative actions by voice vote.

On audit services, the board voted to award the 2025–2026 audit contract to Denise King, CPA after the evaluation committee cited qualifications and past performance; board discussion noted limited bidders and prior auditors withdrawing from the work. The board approved the motion by voice vote.

The board also approved contracting Alliance Corporation as the construction manager (and GC‑capable firm) for the East Middle School project and Rising Sun for the district’s farm projects. Board members said both firms have relevant experience and that the selection process considered firm qualifications and capacity to avoid over‑concentrating multiple projects with a single manager.

Other approved items included the consent agenda (with several items pulled for separate discussion), approval of the submitted unmet‑needs list, adoption of the 2026–2027 student discipline code so online registration could be enabled, approval to pursue a No Kid Hungry summer feeding grant to expand sites and days, and permission to participate in a WIDA model research study for multilingual‑learner programming. What the votes mean: staff may proceed with contracting and implementation steps for the awarded vendors, bring pricing for identified unmet needs back to the board for any supplemental approvals, and advance grant or research participation steps as authorized.
