Dr. Germundson told District #7 families that elementary school assignments for the upcoming school year will be sent next week through ParentSquare, email and text, and urged families who do not receive a notice to check their address information.
"Remember, 5th grade students are going back to the elementaries," Dr. Germundson said, stressing that the change affects placement for fifth graders returning to elementary schools.
He described a themed open-house program the district is calling a "Signing day," to be held at every elementary and organized with parent-teacher organizations. "Students are going to receive a golden ticket to invite you to the school that you're going to be at next year," he said, and noted announcements about the events will go out the week of April 27 and on May 5. PTOs will provide food at the events.
On logistics, Dr. Germundson said assignments will follow the approved attendance map and that the district cannot accommodate requests to attend a different elementary except in the limited circumstances spelled out in district policy. "The policy includes the option for district employees to request elementary school placement for their child, with all requests subject to space availability," he said.
He also advised that families assigned to Garden Valley and Missouri Ridge will receive prioritization for bussing services. For families who find their assignment appears incorrect or who did not receive a placement notice, the district will make a form available to submit address corrections or requests.
Regarding shared custody, Dr. Germundson said: "In a shared custody situation, where parents or guardians live in different attendance boundaries, school placement will be based on the address used to complete enrollment." He closed by thanking families for their patience and directing them to WillistonSchools.org for more information.
The announcement did not include formal votes, ordinance references, or specific deadlines for when placement-correction forms will close; it provided contact information only for the district website.
