Parish planners recommend rezoning 143 Mson Drive for wedding venue, send request to council

The Terrebone Parish Zoning and Land Use Commission voted to recommend that the parish council rezone 143 Mson Drive from R‑1 (single‑family residential) to C‑2 (general commercial) to permit an indoor/outdoor wedding and event venue with possible boat access.

Applicant representatives described the proposal as a local event venue intended to replace lost capacity after a long‑standing venue closed. Staff told the panel the application meets the zoning ordinance test for an “increase in need for sites for business or industry” and recommended approval; staff also reported that public notice requirements were satisfied and that no calls in opposition were received.

Councilman Danny Babin (District 7), speaking during the public comment period, said he had spoken with local utilities and supported moving the request to the council. “I think it’s a great idea,” Babin said.

Commissioners moved and approved a recommendation to the parish council (motion moved by Mr. Sudier, second by Mr. Maguire). Staff explained that the council will set a committee agenda date and hold a public hearing roughly 30 days after that; the earliest likely hearing at the council level was described as mid‑May.
