County reprograms Pine Island boat-ramp gate to 5 a.m. after residents complain of morning backups

After hearing complaints that early‑morning users were lining up at the gated Lavender Landing boat ramp on Pine Island and blocking residential driveways, the Lee County Board of County Commissioners voted March 17 to reprogram the gate to unlock at 5:00 a.m.
Commissioner Petroski said residents requested an earlier opening to reduce trucks idling and driveway blockages; staff explained the gate was installed after nighttime nuisance complaints and is electronically programmable. Parks staff (Mac) told the board the gate time can be reprogrammed and confirmed the change would take effect immediately, with the new 5:00 a.m. opening in place the following morning.
Commissioners amended the original motion from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. after discussion and asked staff to monitor impacts and report back if additional adjustments are necessary.
