Commissioners waive $1 million cap to speed Burnt Store Road safety improvements

Rob Price of the county DOT told commissioners the estimated cost for paved shoulders and rumble striping is below $4 million; lifting the cap for this project allows the county to solicit quotes from all vendors on the contract and is expected to trim roughly three months from the procurement timeline. Price and DOT staff said they intend to bring a contract back to the board for approval before the summer break.
Commissioners supported the acceleration and noted the qualified contractor pool will have full opportunity to bid. The motion passed with no objection recorded in the transcript.
