Little Rock School District elects Norma Johnson as board president; leadership slate filled

The Little Rock School District Board reorganized its leadership on March 19, electing Director Norma Johnson as board president and completing nominations for vice president, secretary, legislative liaison and the board dispersing officer.

Vice President Anna Strong opened the meeting and read the board’s procedure for officer elections under LRSD policy 1.2.2, saying nominations would be accepted and decided by majority voice vote. Directors nominated Norma Johnson and Greg Adams for president; after a voice vote Anna Strong declared, “the eyes have it and director Johnson is elected president.”

Johnson, taking the chair, thanked colleagues for their support. “It is an honor and I have finally arrived,” she said, adding that she expects the board to work together on student-centered outcomes.

The board filled the remaining offices without extended contest: Greg Adams was nominated and accepted the vice president role, Anna Strong was nominated and accepted as secretary, the board selected a board dispersing officer based on financial background, and Director Eugene was selected as legislative liaison by majority. The board then drew lots to assign two- and four-year terms to ensure continuity among the newly configured members.

The meeting also moved and unanimously approved a consent agenda that included personnel changes, March purchasing reports, board meeting minutes, community service learning applications, a property donation and round-two staff recommendations for the 2026–27 PreK and elementary school year. No public comments were registered for this meeting.

The board chair adjourned the meeting after routine board comments and community items.
