Edgar County EMS reports 270 calls in February; 911 subcommittee to meet in early April

The Edgar County Board heard a report from county EMS showing 270 calls in February and an upward trend in daily activity.

Jesse, who presented the monthly operations report, said, “we finished that month with 270 total calls, 219 of which were completed with a transport and/or a refusal of care at the scene, averaging just south of 10 calls a day,” and added that response times “remain within the contractuals.” He also reported six interfacility transfers, 32 non-emergent transfers, two mutual-aid standbys with local fire departments, six cardiac-arrest or death-related calls and 44 refusals of care. On training, Jesse said EMS taught six classes in February covering community CPR and that a high-school EMT course is nearing completion with about 50 student attendees.

Board members praised the community CPR turnout and pressed staff on mutual-aid responses to neighboring jurisdictions. The board agreed to form a three-member 911 subcommittee to coordinate with EMS and other stakeholders; members discussed candidate dates and said the chairman will schedule the first meeting in the first week of April.

The board asked staff to provide Jesse’s full end-of-month report at the next study session and to follow up with details on interfacility transfers and mutual-aid responses. No formal vote was recorded on the committee’s formation at this session; scheduling and membership were discussed and tentatively agreed.
