Waukegan CUSD 60 opens student board applications for 2026–27; schedules bilingual parent workshop

Waukegan CUSD 60 has opened applications for two student board member positions for the 2026–27 school year and scheduled a bilingual parent workshop, the district said in its weekly update.
Nicholas Alzakis, director of communications for Waukegan CUSD 60, said current freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply; two students (one from each campus) will be selected to serve one-year terms as student board members and offer peer perspectives on school climate, curriculum and student life. "Applications are due by May 3," Alzakis said.
Alzakis also announced the next Academia 60 parent workshop will focus on supporting bilingual children. The session is set for Tuesday, April 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Waukegan High School's Brookside campus; the district is offering virtual options in English and Spanish.
As a final reminder in the update, Alzakis noted the district will be closed on Friday in observance of Good Friday and classes will resume Monday, April 6.
