Board approves overnight trips, new elementary math resource and purchase of two special-education buses

The Superior School District Board of Education approved several routine action items and capital purchases at its March 16 meeting, including overnight field trips, curriculum resources and transportation equipment.

The board approved an overnight field trip request for a Northland Senior Retreat at the Superior School Forest and approved two overnight robotics-team trips to Wisconsin events following motion and second; all motions carried by voice vote.

The teaching and learning committee recommended adopting a new elementary math curriculum resource to support the district’s seven-year curriculum cycle. Board members discussed timing so the math pilot would not conflict with the recently implemented literacy curriculum; administrators said pilot teachers will help refine implementation and training before full rollout. The board approved the committee’s recommendation.

The operations committee recommended—and the board approved—the purchase of two special-education buses from Wisconsin Bus Sales for a total of $298,234. According to the administration, one bus will be equipped with a wheelchair lift and the other modified with a flat floor to support students with mobility needs.

The board also approved acceptance of gifts, grants and bequests received in February 2026, and adopted second readings of district policies revised per Neola recommendations including policy 8510 (wellness), policy 6152.01 (waiver of school fees or fines) and policy 6320 (purchasing).
