The J O Combs Unified School District Board voted 5-0 to approve a one-day shift to the 2026'027 teacher work calendar so teacher report and contract dates align with payroll cycles.
Staff explained the proposal would move new teachers' report-in date to July 16 (previously July 17) and shift the last teacher workday to the district's graduation day on July 26. The staff member said the change is intended to prevent district employees' final contracts and lump-sum payouts from being delayed into a later pay period; the total number of instruction days remains at 180.
Trustees asked whether the change would create a logistics crunch around graduation and teacher checkout, especially at the high school. Staff and trustees said administration would be on site to process checkouts and that most employees could plan around the one-day change. The staff member acknowledged some employees may still need to return for final tasks the week after graduation but said the one-day shift is the least disruptive option for payroll and for most staff.
A board member moved to approve the changes to the 2026'027 work calendar as presented. The motion was seconded and passed 5-0.
