Staff also described two related, shorter projects: a courtyard (court) project for which the bid package was released Monday, Jan. 5 with a 30‑day bid period; staff estimated a groundbreaking around April and an approximate six‑month construction window for the courtyard. The commission was told the Santa Clara County Library District and the endowment are funding aspects of the courtyard and patio work, including furniture and audiovisual equipment. Staff warned the courtyard will be closed during construction for safety reasons.
Commissioners asked about the children’s play space, which staff said remains delayed pending permitting and fire‑department sign‑offs; staff said they would follow up with the permitting agency and report back. Staff repeatedly emphasized that dates are contingent on permitting, final design, and bid outcomes and asked the commission not to treat the schedule as fixed.
