Red Clay superintendent: district will revisit cell-phone and device policies after presentation on youth screen time

At the webinar, Green referenced recent state legislation, saying, "There has been recent legislation, uh Senate Bill, I believe it's 106, um that was passed. We We all have to update our policies as school districts relating to cell phones." He told attendees that current practice keeps Chromebooks with K–3 students in school (they do not take devices home) and that the district is considering expanding that limitation to all elementary students.
Technology management: Green said Red Clay uses Google Safe Search and additional filtering software to block topics such as violence, nudity and self-harm on district devices, and that monitoring tools generate alerts when students attempt to access flagged content. He acknowledged students sometimes try to circumvent restrictions and described the work as a collaboration between school and home.
Follow-up and timeline: The district will compile unanswered chat questions and provide a follow-up FAQ through its technology department and public information office, and will post the recorded webinar on the district website once processed. Green also said the district would engage student voice advocates from secondary schools to gather student perspectives on policy changes.
