Board approves construction contracts, procurement membership, and transportation MOU; files resolution on property valuations

At its March 23 meeting, the Ashland City School Board approved multiple routine and contract items by unanimous voice votes, including construction contracts, procurement membership and a transportation-related memorandum of understanding.
Construction bids opened March 12 were awarded to Bogner Corporation for the Taft playground renovation and to Berning Jones Construction for the softball turf project. The board and administrators said Bogner plans to begin immediately after school ends and Berning Jones intends to start in the summer, with some allowance to begin in the fall. The motion to accept the low bidders carried with all sitting board members recorded as voting yes (Mr. Brinley, Mrs. Depert, Mrs. Mowry, Mr. Summers and Mr. Tiven).
The board also voted to join Equalus, a cooperative purchasing group the district said provides procurement assistance at no cost. Treasurers and administrators described Equalus as a resource for streamlining procurement for projects such as roofing and other capital work.
A memorandum of understanding with the vendor identified in the transcript as "Oopsy" clarifies that employees who hold school-bus driver certification but drive smaller microbuses or vans will continue to receive the school-bus driver wage under the collective-bargaining agreement. The board approved that MOU to preserve wage protections and permit operational flexibility when smaller vehicles are used.
Separately, the board approved a resolution to file complaints with the board of revisions asking that certain commercial properties'sale prices be used to update tax valuations where current auditor values lag recent sales. The treasurer framed the resolution as a routine, counsel-reviewed step to align tax valuations with market sales where warranted.
All items on the treasurer's and superintendent's consent calendars, including personnel retirements noted in the superintendent's consent calendar, were approved by voice votes. The board recognized retirements of Abby Hoffman and Rich Wisowski during the meeting.
