Board honors St. Bernard Academic Games national team; PBF Energy donates $15,000 for nationals

Elizabeth Ellison Frost, identified as public relations manager for Shelmet Refining/PBF Energy, congratulated the students and said the company values education and wanted to help defray costs. "On behalf of Shelmet Refining and PBF Energy, I'm happy to be here tonight to recognize the 2026 St. Bernard Academic Games national team," she said, and announced a $15,000 donation to help cover trip expenses to Charlotte, N.C.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students' discipline and character, highlighted past national successes, and invited parents and coaches to stand for recognition. Students from elementary through high school were called and given team shirts by coaches; district officials said the contribution reduces fundraising pressure on families.
No board vote was required for the recognition or the corporate remarks. The gift was announced on the record and recorded in the meeting minutes.
