Mariemont council approves pickleball sidewalk, $5,000 for intersection study and amended tree‑removal contract

Council members said the $5,000 for the pickleball sidewalk had been budgeted and voted unanimously to proceed. On the Plainville intersection study, the council approved contributing $5,000 of the village’s share toward an estimated $28,000 study that Hamilton County engineers will help develop; members stressed the study is a planning step and does not commit the village to construction or future grant applications.
A separate spending request to remove two trees (part of a project to repurpose a shed area) generated questions because the contract misidentified species. Council member Ben James and others noted the paperwork referred to a maple when the work should remove two hackberry trees and grind their stumps; the council moved to amend the contract wording, voted to approve the amendment, and then accepted the amended spending request.
Council also acknowledged resident concern about recent sidewalk work at Dogwood Park. Members said a contract is in place for that project and that the council would not deliberate the sidewalk contract at the meeting; the council indicated the sidewalk work will proceed per the existing contract.
Other routine business at the meeting included approving the bill payment list, recognition of volunteers helping restore the Mariemont Theater, and scheduling follow‑up committee work on a proposed internship with Green Umbrella.
